The brief: a roofline that matches the house
Your roofline is the edge of the roof: the fascia under the tiles, the soffit under the overhang, the barge board up the gable and the gutters that carry the water away. When any of it fails, rain gets into the roof edge and the brickwork below.
This project replaced the whole roofline in white uPVC with black guttering and downpipes. White boards against brick give a crisp, low-maintenance edge, and the black gutter picks out the line.
Fascias, soffits and guttering replacement: what changes
The fascia is the board that carries the gutter. The soffit is the underside board that closes the gap between the wall and the roof edge. A barge board follows the slope of a gable end. New uPVC boards do not rot and need no repainting, and the soffit can be vented so the roof space breathes.
New guttering and downpipes complete the job. Water now runs away from the wall instead of down it, which protects the brickwork. We install uPVC fascias, soffits and guttering in styles and colours to match the existing design.
The work from the scaffold
The first photograph looks up from the scaffold at the new white soffit boards, laid tight along the eaves with the scaffold tubes still in place. The next shows a corner of the house, with the soffit finished above and a black downpipe dropping cleanly down the brick.
Joints are neat, the boards are square to the wall and the downpipe is fixed straight. These are the details you see from the street, and they are the ones we check before the scaffold comes down.
The scaffold is already up for the roofline work, so we check the tiles and lead along the roof edge at the same time.
The finished roofline
The final photograph shows a barge board and fascia on a red brick gable, bright white against a blue sky, with a clean verge above it. It will look the same in ten years, because uPVC does not flake.
Fascias, soffits and guttering replacement is one of the few jobs that changes how the whole house looks from the street, and the one that gets left until the roof edge is already rotting. Doing it while the scaffold is up, or alongside a re-roof, saves the cost of putting scaffold up twice.

Questions
Do uPVC fascias and soffits need painting?
No. uPVC does not rot or flake, so once fitted it needs an occasional wash and nothing else.
Can you match my existing roofline?
Yes. We install uPVC fascias, soffits and guttering in styles and colours to match the existing design of your property.
Should I replace the guttering at the same time?
Yes, where the gutters are worn. The fascia carries the gutter, so replacing both once saves scaffold costs and leaves a matching finish.
Do you work on commercial buildings too?
Yes. We replace fascias, soffits and guttering on both domestic and commercial properties.
